Discover Unique Flavors at Howick Village Market Every Saturday

The vibrant atmosphere of the Howick Village Market in New Zealand captivates visitors every Saturday from 08:30 to 12:00. This popular market showcases a diverse range of local vendors offering unique products, creating an engaging shopping experience for all ages. Recently, young journalist Pia Grover explored the market, highlighting the exceptional offerings and dedication of the stall holders.
The sound of live music filled the air, enhancing the market’s lively ambiance. Stalls featured an array of distinctive items, each reflecting the creativity and passion of their owners. One standout was the stall selling Bulla, a traditional Finnish sweet bread. Eva, the stall holder, rises at 03:00 every Saturday to prepare fresh batches in flavors like pistachio and chocolate, cinnamon and cardamom, and almond. According to Grover, each flavor was “mouth-watering, scrumptious, and rich in flavour,” a testament to Eva’s dedication.
The pretzel stall drew attention with its impressive selection that included classic flavors such as rock salt and cheese, alongside unique options like Nutella almond and balsamic onion. Customers were treated to a delightful variety that expanded the traditional pretzel experience.
Another highlight was the Raglan Kettle Corn stall, known for its sweet-and-salty popcorn. Unlike the buttered varieties typically found in cinemas, this popcorn boasted a delicious sweet coating that captivated the taste buds of market-goers.
The market also featured award-winning products from Good Chow NZ, which recently took home the Outstanding 2025 Food Producer Award for its first brew soy sauce. Grover noted that their sauces and freshly made juices, including beetroot and blueberry flavors, were not only affordable but also of exceptional quality. Her mother used the sauces to enhance homemade dumplings, showcasing their versatility in home cooking.
Young entrepreneur Michael Collins, a Year 9 student from Howick College, is another notable stall holder. With a passion for 3D printing, he offers a range of interesting pieces that appeal to both children and adults. His commitment to learning and business development at such a young age illustrates the entrepreneurial spirit thriving at the market.
The leather belts stall, operated by a long-standing vendor, also caught Grover’s eye. Offering custom-made belts at competitive prices, this stall has established itself as a favorite among regular shoppers.
The Howick Village Market truly presents a world of culinary and creative wonders. For those looking for a unique shopping experience, visiting the market is highly recommended. As Grover enthusiastically concludes, “If you’re hungry after reading this, pop on down to the Howick Village Market on any Saturday!”
