Onehunga Cancels 2025 Christmas Parade Due to Funding Issues

The Onehunga Business Association has officially cancelled its annual Christmas parade for 2025, citing insufficient funding and limited capacity as key factors. In a recent announcement on Facebook, Business Onehunga manager Victoria Puxty expressed her disappointment over the decision, stating it was made with a “very heavy heart.”
The announcement comes in the wake of ongoing challenges faced by the association, particularly following the April Special General Meeting, which resulted in significant changes to the structure of Business Onehunga. Puxty explained, “This decision comes as a direct response to the ongoing challenges and significant reduction in resources.” She emphasized that with the current constraints on funding and capacity, organizing the Christmas parade has become unfeasible.
The Christmas parade has been a cherished event in the Onehunga community, bringing together residents and businesses to celebrate the festive season. The cancellation is likely to leave a void for many who look forward to the yearly festivities.
In her statement, Puxty acknowledged the impact this decision may have on the community. “We understand how much the parade means to everyone,” she noted, adding that the association is committed to exploring alternative ways to celebrate the holiday season in the future.
The Onehunga Business Association, which plays a crucial role in local commerce and community spirit, is currently navigating a challenging financial landscape. The reduction in resources has prompted a thorough reassessment of its initiatives, leading to the difficult choice to cancel the parade.
As local businesses evaluate their participation in future events, the association aims to foster a supportive environment that can adapt to current realities. While there are no immediate plans for other events to replace the parade, the association remains hopeful for revitalization in the upcoming years.
In light of this cancellation, the community is encouraged to stay engaged with Business Onehunga for updates on potential events or initiatives that may emerge as alternatives during the festive season.
