Volunteers will take to the streets of Auckland this week for the annual Pink Ribbon Street Appeal, a fundraising event organized by the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. On October 17 and 18, nearly 3,000 volunteers will collect donations to support vital breast cancer research, education, and patient support services.

Ah-Leen Rayner, chief executive of the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, highlighted the importance of community involvement in combating breast cancer, which claims the lives of over 650 New Zealanders each year. Rayner stated, “Breast cancer still takes the lives of more than 650 New Zealanders every year, but it doesn’t have to be this way.”

Donations, no matter how small, can significantly impact the foundation’s work. Contributions will directly fund key initiatives, including a nurse advice line, a clinical trial focused on new diagnostic methods, and the foundation’s iconic Pink Campervan, which travels around New Zealand to provide education on breast health and early detection.

As a charity that relies entirely on public generosity, the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ does not receive government funding. Rayner appealed for support, saying, “Your support will directly fund vital programmes… Please donate whatever you can to the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal to help make sure more women can live and live well after breast cancer.”

Residents can contribute by donating directly to volunteer collectors in pink buckets throughout Auckland. Donations can also be made online at www.pinkribbonappeal.co.nz or by texting “PINK” to 2447 to donate $3.

The Pink Ribbon Street Appeal represents a crucial opportunity for the Auckland community to come together in support of those affected by breast cancer. Each donation plays a vital role in ensuring that the foundation can continue its essential work, helping to improve the lives of many New Zealanders.
