Kiwis Set for Pacific Championships Opener Against Samoa

The Kiwis have announced a strong lineup for their opening match of the Pacific Championships against Samoa on Sunday, marking a significant event in Auckland. Veteran playmaker Kieran Foran will team up with Dylan Brown in the halves, bringing experience to a squad that includes six returning players from the 2023 title-winning team.
This formidable group features key players such as winger Ronaldo Mulitalo, second-rower Briton Nikora, and props Moses Leota and Nelson Asofa-Solomona. Starting at hooker, Jeremy Marshall-King is set to make a notable return, having previously played his first two tests during the 2022 World Cup.
The Kiwis will be under the leadership of James Fisher-Harris, who will captain the side. Fisher-Harris is one of ten players who participated in the Kiwis’ last match, where they achieved a decisive victory over Papua New Guinea with a score of 54-12 in Sydney last November.
In a notable lineup decision, Erin Clark, the Dally M lock of the year, will miss out on the No 13 jersey. Instead, Joseph Tapine, the captain of the Canberra Raiders, will take that position, showcasing the depth and competition within the team.
Adding to the excitement is the inclusion of young talent, with Xavier Willison of the Brisbane Broncos named as the 18th man, as he aims for his test debut. His potential arrival adds a layer of anticipation, reflecting the Kiwis’ commitment to nurturing emerging players.
As the team prepares for this significant matchup, the atmosphere in Auckland is expected to be electric, with fans eager to support their national side in this prestigious tournament. The Pacific Championships promise to deliver intense competition, and the Kiwis are poised to make a strong statement in their opening game against Samoa.
