Veteran Indian Actor Pankaj Dheer Passes Away at 68

Indian actor Pankaj Dheer, renowned for his portrayal of Karna in the acclaimed television series Mahabharat, passed away today at the age of 68 following a prolonged battle with cancer. His passing was confirmed by the Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA), which expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a respected member and former Hon. General Secretary.

In a statement released on October 15, 2025, CINTAA announced, “With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform you of the passing of our Trust’s erstwhile Chairman, Shri Pankaj Dheer ji.” The cremation is scheduled for today at 16:30 local time, next to Pawan Hans in Vile Parle, Mumbai. Family sources indicate that Dheer was surrounded by loved ones in his final moments.

Dheer rose to national prominence in the late 1980s with his role in Mahabharat, a performance that has left a lasting impact on Indian television audiences. His interpretation of Karna, the tragic hero, showcased his ability to convey nobility, valour, and deep inner conflict, earning him lasting respect and admiration.

A Career Spanning Over Four Decades

Throughout a career that spanned more than four decades, Dheer became a familiar face in both film and television. He appeared in popular films such as Sadak (1991), Soldier (1998), and Baadshah (1999), as well as successful television series like Chandrakanta and Badho Bahu. His commanding screen presence resonated with audiences across generations, bringing an old-world gravitas to his roles.

In addition to acting, Dheer was dedicated to nurturing emerging talent in the industry. He established the acting school Abbhinnay and managed Visage Studioz, his own production company, both of which aimed to shape the next generation of Indian performers.

Dheer is survived by his wife, Pammi Dheer, son Nikitin Dheer, and daughter-in-law Kratika Sengar, both of whom are also notable figures in the entertainment industry. The family will conduct the last rites this evening in Mumbai.
