Milan Borich’s Journey: From Addiction to Redemption in Music

Acclaimed New Zealand musician Milan Borich, frontman of the band Pluto, has candidly discussed his tumultuous life journey, revealing the challenges he faced, including a near-fatal accident and a struggle with heroin addiction. In an interview with journalist Shayne Currie, Borich opened up about the significant events that shaped his life, detailing how these experiences led him to find redemption and reconnect with love.
On his 14th birthday, Borich experienced a life-altering event when he fell over a waterfall in Coromandel, New Zealand. While walking along the top ledge, he slipped and plunged approximately 16 meters (about four floors) into a dry pit. The fall resulted in serious injuries, including crushed vertebrae and a smashed kneecap. Medical professionals later stated that Borich’s survival was largely due to him being unconscious upon impact, allowing his body to fall without resistance.
As Borich navigated adolescence and adulthood, he encountered another significant challenge: addiction to heroin. This struggle led to a downward spiral that damaged both personal and professional relationships. The effects of the addiction were devastating, leaving him mentally and physically battered.
In the interview, Borich reflected on the toll that heroin took on his life. He described moments of euphoria followed by despair, which ultimately led to a profound sense of isolation. His addiction not only strained family ties but also affected his career, causing a rift in the bonds he had formed within the music industry.
Borich’s journey toward recovery began with a realization that he needed to change his life. Through treatment and support from loved ones, he began to reclaim his life and rebuild his relationships. This transformative process was not easy, but it brought him to a place of redemption where he could reconnect with his passion for music.
Today, Borich stands as a testament to resilience. He continues to perform with Pluto, sharing his story through his music. The experiences of his past have shaped his artistry, allowing him to connect with audiences on a deeper level. His narrative of struggle and recovery serves as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges.
In the wake of his personal battles, Milan Borich has embraced love and support from friends and family. His story highlights the importance of seeking help and the potential for rebirth after hardship. Through music and honest storytelling, Borich hopes to raise awareness about the complexities of addiction and the journey to recovery.
As he moves forward, Borich remains committed to using his platform to shed light on these significant issues, inspiring others to find their own paths to healing.
