Hawke’s Bay Sisters Set for Junior World Cup Adventure in Chile

Three sisters from Napier, New Zealand, are gearing up for an exciting opportunity in the world of hockey. Emma, Hannah, and Greer Findlay have all been selected to represent New Zealand at the FIH Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile, taking place from December 1-13, 2023. This prestigious tournament marks a significant milestone for the sisters, who have developed their skills together on the hockey fields of Hawke’s Bay.
Emma Findlay, the eldest at 21 years old, has already made a name for herself in the sport. Having participated in the senior women’s team, the Black Sticks, she contributed to their success at the Nations Cup held in Poland earlier this year. Her experience includes playing in the 2023 World Cup, also in Santiago, showcasing her growing reputation in international hockey.
A Rising Star in Professional Hockey
Currently, Emma is competing as a full-time professional in the England women’s Premier League. Last month, she represented New Zealand in a significant match against Australia in Darwin, helping secure a place for the team at the 2026 FIH World Cup, which will be held in Belgium and the Netherlands next August. Her achievements reflect the high level of talent within the Findlay family and their dedication to the sport.
Hannah and Greer, aged 19 and 17 respectively, have also made impressive strides in their hockey careers. Both sisters have participated in various national tournaments, honing their skills and preparing for the challenges ahead in the upcoming World Cup. Their selection alongside Emma underscores the strength of their combined experience and teamwork.
Preparing for the International Stage
As the sisters prepare for this remarkable journey, they emphasize the importance of their shared experiences on and off the field. Their tight-knit bond has not only strengthened their performance as a team but has also provided invaluable support as they transition into the competitive international arena.
The FIH Junior World Cup presents a unique opportunity for young athletes to showcase their skills on a global platform. The Findlay sisters are excited to represent New Zealand and bring their passion for hockey to the forefront. With their sights set on success, they are ready to take on the world and make their mark in Santiago.
As they embark on this new chapter, the Findlay sisters embody the spirit of determination and excellence that defines New Zealand hockey. Their journey serves as an inspiration to young athletes everywhere, demonstrating the power of hard work and family support in achieving one’s dreams.
