Melbourne United Dominates New Zealand Breakers 104-88

In a decisive match on November 1, 2025, Melbourne United secured a commanding victory over the New Zealand Breakers, winning 104-88 in Melbourne. This result left the Breakers with a disappointing record of 2-6 in the current Australian National Basketball League (ANBL) season.
The Breakers came into the game with some momentum, having won two of their last three matches. However, they struggled to match the intensity of Melbourne United, who have now extended their winning streak to seven games, showcasing their dominance early in the season.
Melbourne United’s offense was led by veteran guard Chris Goulding, who scored 23 points and made an impressive eight three-pointers out of thirteen attempts. His performance was crucial in establishing a lead that the Breakers could not overcome.
The game began with Melbourne taking control, leading 28-17 after the first quarter. The Breakers’ Izaiah Brockington was a standout performer for his team, scoring 25 points and making key plays early on. Despite his efforts, the Breakers were unable to keep pace with their opponents.
By halftime, Melbourne United had built a substantial lead of 56-38, with Goulding contributing significantly to the team’s success. The hosts boasted an impressive shooting percentage of 55% from the field and 60% from three-point range, while the Breakers struggled, converting only 4 of 14 attempts from beyond the arc.
Despite a brief resurgence in the third quarter, when captain Parker Jackson-Cartwright hit a three-pointer to close the gap to 57-48, Melbourne quickly responded. Tanner Krebs delivered crucial long-range shots in the final quarter, effectively quashing any hopes of a Breakers comeback.
Jackson-Cartwright finished the match with 20 points, along with nine assists and nine rebounds, demonstrating his leadership despite the team’s challenges. However, the Breakers’ bench failed to make a significant impact, with Rob Baker II being largely absent throughout the game.
As the season progresses, the Breakers will need to address their inconsistency to remain competitive in the ANBL. Their next opportunity to rebound from this defeat will be critical as they aim to improve their standing in the league.
