Firefighters Respond to House Blaze in Riwaka, Tasman District
A significant fire broke out this morning in the Tasman town of Riwaka, prompting a swift response from multiple fire crews. According to a Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager, emergency services received several calls reporting a house fire on Dehra Doon Rd around 10:50 am on October 17, 2023.
In the initial response, two fire engines and a tanker from Motueka were dispatched to the scene. As the situation escalated, the fire was classified as a second alarm, necessitating additional support. Crews from Kaiteriteri, Tasman, Mapua, and Nelson were subsequently called to assist in controlling the blaze.
Firefighters worked diligently to contain the flames and prevent further damage to surrounding properties. The exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, and investigations are anticipated to follow once the situation is stabilized.
