Bay of Plenty Councillor Andrew von Dadelszen Concludes Tenure

Andrew von Dadelszen has stepped down from his role as a regional councillor for the Bay of Plenty after a significant 15-year tenure. In the recent elections held on October 11, 2023, von Dadelszen was defeated for the final Tauranga seat by Kat Macmillan, losing by a margin of 248 votes. The election results, confirmed on the following Saturday, revealed that other incumbents, including Ron Scott from Tauranga, Lyall Thurston from Rotorua, and Te Taru White from Ōkurei, also faced similar outcomes and will not return to their positions.
Reflecting on his years of service, von Dadelszen expressed a sense of completion. “I’ve done my dash,” he stated, indicating that he has no plans to run for office again. His decision to retire comes after a period of dedicated public service, during which he contributed to various initiatives and discussions affecting the Bay of Plenty region.
With the election results now finalized, the council will undergo a transition as new members prepare to take office. The results highlight a shift in the local political landscape, with voters opting for fresh perspectives in their representation.
The Bay of Plenty Regional Council plays a crucial role in managing the region’s resources, environmental issues, and regional development. The departure of long-standing members like von Dadelszen marks a notable change, as the new council members will bring different priorities and strategies to the table.
As the community reflects on the recent electoral changes, von Dadelszen’s contributions over the years will be remembered. His decision to step down opens the door for new leadership, potentially reshaping the future direction of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
