Qatar’s Energy Minister Urges Gas Producers to Reject Trade Barriers

At the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) held in Doha on October 23, 2025, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, HE Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, called on gas-producing nations to oppose trade barriers that hinder the natural gas sector. His remarks emphasized the need for collaboration among member states to position natural gas as a key component in the transition to cleaner energy sources.
Commitment to Natural Gas and Clean Energy
During his address, Minister Al-Kaabi reaffirmed Qatar’s dedication to working with other gas-producing countries to enhance the role of natural gas in achieving global energy goals. He stated, “We must be clear in our opposition to trade barriers and discriminatory measures that disadvantage energy products, especially natural gas.” This stance highlights Qatar’s advocacy for fair trade practices that support the growth of the energy sector.
Al-Kaabi’s comments come at a time when the global energy landscape is evolving. He noted that despite ongoing geopolitical tensions and challenges in climate policy, the future of natural gas, particularly liquefied natural gas (LNG), remains promising. Factors such as economic growth in Asia and an increasing demand for cleaner energy sources are driving this optimistic outlook.
Focus on Energy Transition
The GECF meeting addressed several crucial topics related to the role of natural gas in the ongoing energy transition. Minister Al-Kaabi highlighted the rising energy needs of sectors such as data centers and artificial intelligence, which further reinforce the demand for natural gas as a stable energy source.
The Gas Exporting Countries Forum serves as a platform for the world’s leading gas-exporting nations to engage in dialogue, aiming to ensure stability and security in natural gas supply and demand. This gathering reflects the collective effort to navigate the complexities of the global energy market and to foster cooperation among producers and consumers.
As the meeting concluded, Minister Al-Kaabi reiterated the significance of unity among gas-exporting nations in promoting natural gas as a sustainable energy solution. His call to action resonates not only in Qatar but also across the international community, as countries seek to balance energy needs with environmental responsibilities.
