Injuries Sideline Barrett Brothers Ahead of Scotland Clash

The All Blacks will face Scotland without both Scott and Jordie Barrett due to injuries sustained during their recent match against Ireland. In a hard-fought game on March 3, 2024, the New Zealand team secured a 26-13 victory in Chicago, but the Barrett brothers’ injuries will significantly impact their upcoming lineup.
Scott Barrett, the team captain, suffered a laceration to his leg just three minutes into the match, necessitating a quick exit from the field and requiring twelve stitches. His brother, Jordie Barrett, followed suit shortly after, leaving the game in the 13th minute due to an ankle injury. Both players were assessed upon arrival in Edinburgh after the team’s departure from Chicago.
The timeline for their return to action remains unclear as further medical reviews are pending. In light of their injuries, the All Blacks have called up Josh Beehre from the All Blacks XV as a replacement. He is expected to provide cover for the lock position, which will now likely feature Fabian Holland and Josh Lord as starters against Scotland. Other options, including Sam Darry and Samipeni Finau, are also available.
In Chicago, Leicester Faninga’anuku stepped in for Jordie Barrett, transitioning into the centre position, while Quinn Tupaea moved to second five-eighth. The All Blacks are considering other midfield options, including Billy Proctor, Anton Lienert-Brown, and Rieko Ioane, as they prepare for the upcoming match.
The All Blacks’ official lineup for the game against Scotland will be announced on Friday, as the team adjusts to the absence of key players. Fans will be eagerly awaiting the news as the squad aims to continue their strong performance on the international stage.
