Paradice Entertainment Achieves Qualmark Gold Sustainability Award
Paradice Entertainment has been awarded the prestigious Qualmark Gold Sustainable Tourism Business Award, the highest accolade in New Zealand’s official tourism quality assurance program. This recognition, presented by Tourism New Zealand, signifies that the company meets world-class sustainability and quality standards across environmental, social, and economic dimensions.
The Qualmark Gold accreditation, endorsed by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), highlights Paradice’s commitment to excellence in various areas, including environmental care, community engagement, visitor experiences, and sustainable business practices. Gold, Silver, and Bronze ratings are granted based on independent assessments, with Gold representing the pinnacle of achievement in the industry.
This award marks Paradice Entertainment’s first assessment since implementing mandatory safety measures, such as new helmets and concussion bands, demonstrating its prioritization of visitor safety. “We’re incredibly proud to achieve the Qualmark Gold Award,” said Sarah Blong, the company’s Sales and Marketing Manager. “It’s a testament to the dedication of our team and our ongoing commitment to providing safe, sustainable, and memorable experiences for every visitor.”
Commitment to Sustainability
Paradice’s Gold rating reflects its active engagement in environmental initiatives and community involvement. The company participates in local pest control and native planting projects at its Avondale rink, which is located within a native bird corridor. Employees engage in various sustainability practices, including recycling coffee grounds and soft plastics, as well as harvesting rainwater for ice production.
Additionally, Paradice Entertainment champions the Tiaki Promise, which encourages visitors to care for people, place, and culture. The company also supports a local forest restoration project through contributions of equipment and volunteer time from its staff. Programs such as ‘Preserving Paradice’ offer free skating passes to local school environmental leaders, celebrating young advocates for sustainability.
Both the Botany and Avondale rinks provide various recreational activities, including ice skating, ice hockey, laser tag, escape rooms, and mini golf. These venues serve as community hubs, promoting recreation and connection among residents.
Significance of the Award
Achieving the Qualmark Gold Award carries significant implications for Paradice Entertainment. It positions the company as a leader in sustainable tourism, recognized for its comprehensive standards in health and safety, environmental and cultural practices, economic contributions, and social responsibility.
This accolade not only enhances Paradice’s credibility but also attracts international exposure, distinguishing the company as a trusted operator in New Zealand’s tourism sector. As Paradice Entertainment continues to grow, its focus remains on maintaining high-quality operations while upholding its commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
Blong reiterated the company’s vision: “As we continue to grow, our focus remains on keeping things top quality, staying sustainable, and offering world-class fun and entertainment.” The Qualmark Gold Award reinforces Paradice Entertainment’s position as a benchmark for tourism excellence in Aotearoa New Zealand.
