Dunedin Craft Beer Festival Delivers Flavor and Fun for Thousands
The Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival brought together thousands of enthusiasts on March 24, 2024, at the Forsyth Barr Stadium. This vibrant two-day festival attracted an estimated 12,000 attendees, showcasing a diverse array of craft beers and culinary delights.
By Saturday afternoon, the atmosphere was lively as participants donned creative costumes, with attendees like Toni Paterson, Stacey Hitchcock, Amy Coleman, and Courtney Smith dressing as cops and prisoners. This playful choice served a practical purpose, as Ms. Paterson noted, “It’s easier for everyone to find each other.” Additionally, it reminded Ms. Smith of her role as the designated driver for the group after the festivities concluded. “I draw the short straw every year, but I actually don’t mind it. You don’t have to drink to have a good time,” she shared.
Festival director Jason Schroeder highlighted the impressive offerings of this year’s event, which featured over 150 brews from leading breweries across the country. Alongside these beverages, festival-goers could explore more than 75 food vendors, providing a wide range of culinary experiences. “We are happy to welcome new food and drink vendors this year,” Schroeder stated. “These additions build on our mission to provide fresh, innovative flavours alongside craft beers and a selection of wines, cider, and spirits.”
Entertainment and Community Impact
The festival also boasted an exciting musical lineup, with performances from artists such as Gin Wigmore, Tiki Taane, and Bootleg Rascal, alongside a silent disco to keep the energy high. The combination of food, drink, and entertainment created a festive environment that appealed to all attendees.
In addition to the celebration of local brews and culinary talent, the festival supported important community initiatives. This year’s official charity partners included the Dunedin Night Shelter, KiwiHarvest, and the New Zealand Sea Lion Trust. These organizations benefit from the festival’s success, underscoring a commitment to making a positive impact in the region.
As the event drew to a close on the evening of March 25, 2024, it was clear that the Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival had once again delivered a memorable experience. The blend of community spirit, creativity, and culinary excellence left a lasting impression on both local residents and visitors alike.
