Help Identify Nurses in Historical Photos from Puke Ariki
Puke Ariki, the Taranaki-based heritage collection, is seeking public assistance to identify several nurses featured in historical photographs. The collection houses over 110,000 images captured by Swainson’s Studios and Bernard Woods Studio in New Plymouth between the years of 1923 and 1997. Many of these photographs remain without identification, leaving a gap in the historical record.
This week’s featured image can be viewed online and is accessible through the Puke Ariki collection website. The specific link to the photograph is available here: https://collection.pukeariki.com/objects/66728/broad-two-nurses. Last week’s photo, which also seeks identification, can be found at https://collection.pukeariki.com/objects/67052/healy-woman.
Puke Ariki’s digital archive offers a comprehensive view of its heritage collections, allowing the public to explore various historical images. The entire collection can be accessed online at collection.pukeariki.com/objects. Each contribution to identifying these individuals is valuable, as it helps preserve the history of the region.
If anyone has information regarding the identities of the nurses in this week’s image, they are encouraged to reach out. Individuals can contact the Taranaki Research Centre via email at [email protected] or by phone at 06 759 5684. Community engagement is crucial in uncovering the stories behind these photographs, making a significant impact on local history.
Puke Ariki continues to highlight the importance of community involvement in historical preservation. By participating in this initiative, individuals can help ensure that the contributions of these nurses are recognized and remembered.
