Charity Golf Tournament Supports Dunedin Community House
A charity golf tournament at St Clair Golf Club is set to raise funds for Dunedin Community House. Scheduled for November 28, the event will feature an ambrose format, allowing teams of four to compete. Participants will also have the chance to win raffles and spot prizes. While some entries will be accepted on the day, organizers encourage teams to register in advance to ensure their participation.
Rob Riddell Tigeir, the executive officer of Dunedin Community House, emphasized the ongoing benefits community groups receive from the upgraded premises located at 43 Princes St. He noted, “The more modern premises is fantastic, not having to worry when the roof leaks, when it rains.” The facility currently accommodates around 21 long-term tenants and hosts approximately 140 different groups that utilize shared spaces for meetings and training sessions.
The popularity of bookable spaces has surged, with the charity offering affordable rates for non-profit organizations. Riddell Tigeir stated, “We are busier than we have ever been — we have got more organisations, more bookings and more hours booked.” In response to this increased demand, Dunedin Community House has recently created a new meeting room.
Despite the rising usage, the organization faces fixed costs that pose ongoing challenges. Electricity expenses have increased by approximately 30% over the past two years, and securing grant funding remains difficult. As a result, fundraisers like the golf tournament are deemed “absolutely crucial” for maintaining operations. Riddell Tigeir explained, “Every dollar that [sponsor] Ricoh manages to raise for us reduces the cost for all of those organisations.”
The funds raised through the tournament will directly benefit Dunedin Community House and help lower costs for all organizations that utilize the space, including future users. Interested participants can register for the tournament by visiting dch.org.nz/golf.
The charity golf tournament presents an opportunity not only to support a vital community resource but also to enjoy a day of golf and camaraderie. The shotgun start is scheduled for 11:30 AM, and teams are encouraged to secure their spots early to maximize their chances of participating in this meaningful event.
