Fourteen Teams Compete for Seven Spots in FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025
Fourteen national teams are set to compete in the qualifying rounds for seven spots in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025. The tournament will take place in Doha from December 1 to 18, 2025. The qualifying matches will be held in the Qatari capital, where teams will strive for a place in this prestigious Arab football competition.
Qualification Matches Scheduled for November
Qualification matches are scheduled for November 25 and 26, featuring seven matches in total. The opening match will see Mauritania face Kuwait at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, located at Al Sadd Sports Club. This match promises to be competitive, with both teams eager to secure their place in the tournament.
The Kuwaiti national team enters the qualifiers with a rich history in the Arab Cup, having participated in eight of the last ten editions. They aim to recover from missing the last edition, held in Qatar in 2021, where they were knocked out by Bahrain with a 2-0 defeat. Additionally, they recently exited the third round of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Meanwhile, Mauritania seeks to qualify for their third appearance in the tournament, having previously participated in 1985 and 2021.
In another key matchup, Syria will take on South Sudan at the Grand Hamad Stadium at Al Arabi Club. Syria holds an advantage on paper, bolstered by a strong player roster and anticipated support from fans in Doha, who have fond memories of the previous Arab Cup.
South Sudan aims to qualify for the Arab Cup for the first time, hoping to overcome the disappointment of their previous qualifiers, where they lost 3-0 to Jordan. For Syria, the goal is clear: not only to qualify but to achieve better results than their last appearance, where they finished third in their group.
Exciting Matches Ahead for Qualification
Another critical match will see Palestine face Libya on Tuesday at the Thani bin Jassim Stadium at Al Gharafa Club. This match is expected to be tightly contested, given the similar skill levels of both teams.
Libya looks to return to the Arab Cup after failing to qualify for the previous edition, having lost 1-0 to Sudan. They aim to build on solid performances in the African qualifiers for the World Cup 2026. Palestine, having made it to the last edition by defeating Comoros, seeks to make a significant impact after a disappointing group stage exit in 2021.
On Wednesday, four more matches will unfold as the qualifiers continue. Oman will face Somalia at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium. This matchup is a rematch of their previous encounter during the last qualifiers, which Oman won 2-1. The Somali team is determined to overcome their previous failure to qualify, while Oman hopes to secure a spot for the second time in their history.
At Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, Djibouti will take on Bahrain. Djibouti aspires to make their first-ever appearance in the Arab Cup, having previously missed out due to a 1-0 loss to Lebanon. On the other hand, Bahrain aims to advance further than their last group stage exit, where they managed only one point.
Another significant match at the Grand Hamad Stadium will feature Comoros against Yemen. Both teams are vying for a place in the tournament, with Comoros looking to redeem themselves after failing to qualify in the last round. Yemen, too, seeks to return to the Arab Cup atmosphere after missing the previous edition.
The qualifiers will culminate in a highly anticipated match between Sudan and Lebanon at the Thani bin Jassim Stadium. This clash is expected to feature intense competition, as both teams are eager to secure their places in this major Arab event.
