The upcoming Southland Santa Parade is poised to unite the community once again on **November 29, 2025**, at **1:00 PM**. The event, which has grown significantly since its inception in **1999**, is expected to attract more than **20,000 attendees**, building on last year’s record turnout. Organisers are optimistic about this year’s event, thanks to ideal weather conditions and the unwavering support from local volunteers.

According to **Alice Pottinger**, a trustee of the event management team, the success of the Santa Parade is largely due to the dedication of volunteers. “Every year the Santa Parade draws more and more people together, and without the community lending their time and support, we just would not be able to do this,” Pottinger stated. The event has evolved from its humble beginnings with just **six floats** to an impressive lineup of about **60 floats** this year, featuring approximately **1,200 participants**.

The parade will kick off with a lively procession led by the **ILT City of Invercargill Highland Pipe Band** and town crier **Lynley McKerrow**. Following the parade, attendees can look forward to a gala afternoon at **Gala St Reserve**, scheduled from **2:30 PM to 4:00 PM**. This event will provide children with an opportunity to see the floats up close, take photographs with Santa Claus, and allow local community groups and businesses to connect.

A range of food trucks will be present to offer refreshments for those attending the festivities. Pottinger expressed hope for a sunny day, encouraging families to come out and enjoy the event while considering safety. “We are having positive thoughts and hope for a sunny day, and that our families will come out and have a safe and fun day,” she added.

As the Southland Santa Parade approaches, excitement continues to build within the community, promising a festive atmosphere and a celebration that showcases local spirit and togetherness.
