Dunedin Record & Pop Culture Fair Set to Attract Music Enthusiasts
The sixth Dunedin Record & Pop Culture Fair is scheduled for Sunday, December 7, 2023, from 11:00 to 14:00 at Noisy Brewing Co, located on Anzac Ave. This popular event will feature 17 vendors offering a variety of music-related items, including vinyl records, CDs, DVDs, tapes, posters, and pop culture collectibles.
Co-organisers Scott Muir and Leighton Jones, both avid vinyl collectors, have successfully hosted the fair several times a year since 2023. Muir expressed the vision behind the event, stating, “We started buying and selling records online and thought it would be much more fun to do it in as much of a social environment as we could.” He added, “And we all know music and craft beer go very well together.”
Community Engagement and Growing Popularity
The fairs have attracted significant interest, drawing hundreds of attendees, some of whom travel considerable distances to experience the vibrant atmosphere. “It’s great fun for the vendors and the shoppers,” Muir noted. “It’s a chance for like-minded people to come together and talk about our favourite things.” Attendees often discover unique items, with Muir highlighting that “there is a lot of really unusual stuff out there in people’s collections; you can find some real treasures.”
In addition to the enjoyment for seasoned collectors, the event has seen a notable turnout of younger individuals eager to explore new music. Muir attributes this surge to a resurgence of interest in vinyl records, which are now more affordable and widely available than in previous years. This revival reflects a broader trend in the music industry, where vinyl has regained its status as a preferred format for many.
