Jordan Dominates Egypt 3-0 to Secure Arab Cup Quarter-Final Spot
In a decisive match at the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, Jordan eliminated Egypt with a commanding 3-0 victory at Al Bayt Stadium on March 15, 2025. This win not only marked the end of Egypt’s campaign but also solidified Jordan’s position at the top of Group C, where they recorded a perfect run.
Jordan’s journey in the tournament has been impressive, as they previously achieved victories against the UAE (2-1) and Kuwait (3-1). Their performance against Egypt capped off a dominant group stage, setting the stage for a quarter-final clash with Iraq, who finished second in Group D following a 0-2 defeat to defending champions Algeria.
Key Moments in the Match
The match began with both teams testing each other’s defenses, but it was Jordan who drew first blood. In the 19th minute, midfielder Mohammad Abuhasheesh capitalized on a fast-paced move, striking the ball into the bottom left corner past Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed Bassam.
Jordan doubled their lead just before halftime. In the 41st minute, Mohammad Abu Zraiq received a clever pass from Ahmad Ersan and executed a precise shot into the same corner, showcasing his talent and earning him the Player of the Match accolade. Jordan maintained their momentum throughout the game, creating numerous chances.
Although Jordan thought they had scored a third early in the second half, Odeh Fakhoury‘s effort was disallowed due to a handball. Egypt attempted a response shortly after, but Marwan Hamdy shot over the crossbar from distance, highlighting their struggles to find the net.
The final goal came deep into stoppage time. After a foul by Yassin Marei on substitute Ali Olwan in the penalty area, Olwan converted the penalty, sealing a well-deserved 3-0 victory for Jordan.
Looking Ahead
As Jordan players awaited the outcome of the Algeria versus Iraq match, Saed Alrosan, who contributed as a substitute, emphasized their commitment to maintaining focus. “We were determined to deliver a great performance worthy of us as group champions,” he stated. “We’ll put all the celebrations of today’s victory on hold and focus on the upcoming match between Algeria and Iraq.”
Midfielder Ibrahim Sadeh echoed Alrosan’s sentiments, extending congratulations to the Jordanian fans who supported the team throughout the tournament. “Today, you saw the attacking power and defensive stability together. This shows that no matter who plays, the Jordanian national team keeps its identity,” he remarked. “We will celebrate this win, God willing, and after today, we will start focusing fully on the next match.”
With this victory, Jordan not only advances with confidence but also leaves Egypt searching for answers after a disappointing tournament. The quarter-finals promise to be an exciting challenge as Jordan prepares to continue their campaign towards potential glory in the Arab Cup.
