New Zealand Kiwifruit Harvest Surpasses 215 Million Trays

The kiwifruit harvest in New Zealand has reached a record-breaking milestone, with over 215 million trays harvested this season. This achievement comes despite ongoing uncertainties regarding tariffs imposed by the United States, which have raised concerns among growers. According to Colin Bond, chief executive of New Zealand Kiwifruit Growers Incorporated, the harvest has been largely successful, reflecting favorable growing conditions throughout the season.
Bond noted that both the growing and harvesting processes proceeded smoothly, contributing to the impressive output. “Good growing conditions supported crop production,” he stated, emphasizing the industry’s hard work and dedication. As growers conclude this season, they now await market prices that will reflect the quality of their efforts.
While it is premature to forecast the yield for the 2025-26 crop, industry experts project a significant growth trajectory. Bond indicated an anticipated 17% increase in total kiwifruit supply between 2024 and 2029. This optimistic outlook reflects broader trends within the sector that suggest a robust market demand for New Zealand kiwifruit.
The successful harvest serves not only as a testament to the resilience of New Zealand’s kiwifruit growers but also highlights the ongoing challenges posed by international trade dynamics. As growers prepare for potential fluctuations in market prices, the industry remains focused on maintaining high production standards and expanding its reach in global markets.
This record harvest may provide a buffer against potential tariff impacts while positioning New Zealand kiwifruit as a premium choice for consumers worldwide. The upcoming months will be crucial as growers assess market responses and strategize for future seasons.
