Qatar National Chess Team Competes in Abu Dhabi Festival

The Qatar national chess team is actively competing in the 31st Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival, which has drawn over 3,000 players from 82 countries. This prestigious event showcases a variety of chess formats and is an important platform for players to test their skills on an international stage.
Wide Range of Competitions
The festival features 27 different competitions, including the Masters Tournament, Open A and B categories, junior events, blitz chess, and family team games. Such diversity allows players of all skill levels to participate and engage with the global chess community.
Qatar has sent a delegation of 12 players to represent the nation across various categories. Among them are top competitors like Grandmaster Hussein Aziz, along with promising young talents such as Layan and Roza Al-Qassabi. They are participating in the Masters, Open A, Open B, Under-16, and Blitz Chess events.
Player Highlights and Team Aspirations
The matches run daily, with Qatari players demonstrating their skills, particularly Hussein Aziz, who has been in remarkable form. Ghadah Al-Khulaifi is also competing in the Open A category and has displayed impressive proficiency in her games. In the junior section, Hamad Al-Kuwari has caught the attention of spectators with his strategic moves.
The team leader, Hamad Al-Tamimi, emphasized the significance of this festival as a preparatory step for upcoming international competitions. He expressed pride in the players’ dedication and hard work, reflecting the team’s commitment to excel in the sport.
As the festival progresses, the Qatar national chess team aims to build on their experience and strengthen their presence in the global chess arena. The event not only enhances their competitive edge but also fosters camaraderie among players from around the world.
