Netflix’s Emily in Paris Assistant Director Dies on Set in Venice
Diego Borella, the assistant director of the popular Netflix series Emily in Paris, has tragically died while on set in Venice. The 47-year-old reportedly collapsed in front of colleagues during preparations for the final scene of the show’s fifth season. The incident occurred at the historic Hotel Danieli on Thursday, March 14, 2024, around 19:00 (local time).
Emergency medical personnel attempted to revive Borella following his collapse, with a doctor arriving shortly after. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead soon thereafter, with initial reports suggesting he suffered a heart attack, according to La Repubblica. The loss has sent ripples through the cast and crew, as they grapple with the unexpected tragedy on what was to be a celebratory occasion.
Filming for the series, which stars Lily Collins as the titular character, was suspended immediately following Borella’s death. However, reports indicate that production resumed shortly thereafter, reflecting a determination to honor Borella’s contributions to the project.
The film industry often faces the harsh realities of life and death, and Borella’s passing serves as a stark reminder of the physical demands placed on those working in high-pressure environments. Colleagues and friends have expressed their shock and sadness over the loss, highlighting Borella’s passion for filmmaking and his dedication to the craft.
As the crew navigates this difficult time, they are united in their commitment to complete the series, ensuring that Borella’s legacy will continue through the work he helped bring to life.
