Qatar’s shooting team celebrated a successful conclusion to the 16th Asian Shooting Championship, securing a silver medal in the men’s double trap team event. The competition took place in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, where the team achieved a remarkable total of seven medals overall.
The trio of Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Saeed Abu Shareb, and Rashid Al Athba showcased their skills by hitting 266 targets across four rounds. Their strong performance earned them second place, finishing behind the host nation, Kazakhstan. India took home the bronze medal in this event.
In addition to the team success, Al Rumaihi also excelled as an individual competitor, finishing sixth in the individual double trap event. The Qatari team’s impressive medal haul included a silver from Raya Basil in the women’s trap event and five bronze medals across various team and mixed competitions in trap, skeet, and rifle disciplines.
Championship Overview and Impact
The championship, which spanned two weeks, attracted widespread participation from shooting athletes across Asia, competing in disciplines such as pistol, rifle, skeet, and trap. The event provided a platform for nations to showcase their talent and commitment to the sport.
Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, Secretary General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation, praised the team’s achievements. He attributed their success to rigorous preparation and strong support from the Qatar Olympic Committee. He expressed optimism about the future, describing this achievement as a “launchpad toward broader ambitions” for Qatari shooting sports.
The Qatari team is set to return home today, bringing with them not only medals but also valuable experience gained from competing at a high level. As the nation looks forward to future competitions, the success at the Asian Championship serves as a significant milestone in nurturing the sport within Qatar.
