Qatar Shooters Secure Silver Medal at Asian Championship

Qatar’s shooting team concluded their participation in the 16th Asian Shooting Championship with a commendable performance, securing a silver medal in the men’s double trap team event. This achievement brought their total medal count to seven during the competition held in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.

The team, comprising Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Saeed Abu Shareb, and Rashid Al Athba, showcased their skills by hitting a total of 266 targets across four rounds. They claimed second place, finishing behind the hosts, Kazakhstan, while India took home the bronze medal.

Individual Achievements and Medal Breakdown

In addition to the team success, Al Rumaihi also performed well in the individual double trap event, finishing in sixth place. Qatar’s medal haul at the championship included a silver from Raya Basil in the women’s trap category, alongside five bronze medals earned in various team and mixed events across trap, skeet, and rifle disciplines.

The two-week championship attracted widespread participation from across Asia, featuring competitions in pistol, rifle, skeet, and trap disciplines. The event provided a platform for shooters to demonstrate their talent and compete at a high level.

Official Recognition and Future Aspirations

Following the successful campaign, Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, Secretary General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation, praised the team’s achievements. He attributed their success to rigorous preparation and the ongoing support from the Qatar Olympic Committee. Al Sulaiti described the results as “a launchpad toward broader ambitions,” emphasizing the potential for future successes.

The Qatari shooting team returned home after the championship, looking to build on their achievements and continue their development in the sport.
