Qatar’s Shooting Team Secures Silver at Asian Championship

Qatar’s shooting team concluded their participation in the 16th Asian Shooting Championship by winning a silver medal in the men’s double trap team event, enhancing their overall medal count to seven. The championship took place in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, and featured competitors from various Asian countries across multiple shooting disciplines.
The Qatari team, comprised of Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Saeed Abu Shareb, and Rashid Al Athba, showcased impressive skills by hitting a total of 266 targets across four rounds. They finished second, with the host nation, Kazakhstan, taking the gold medal. The bronze medal was awarded to the Indian team.
In addition to the double trap success, Al Rumaihi also placed sixth in the individual double trap event, further demonstrating his proficiency in the sport. Qatar’s medal tally included a silver from Raya Basil in the women’s trap event, alongside five bronze medals achieved in various team and mixed events across trap, skeet, and rifle competitions.
The championship spanned two weeks and attracted significant participation, highlighting the growing importance of shooting sports in the region. Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, Secretary General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation, praised the team’s performance as a reflection of their rigorous preparation and the unwavering support from the Qatar Olympic Committee. He noted that this achievement serves as “a launchpad toward broader ambitions” for Qatari shooting sports.
As the Qatari team prepares to return home, their impressive performance at the Asian Championship underscores their commitment to excellence in shooting sports and sets a positive trajectory for future competitions.
