Qatar U-23 Team Aims for Victory Against India After Dominant Win

The Qatar U-23 team is shifting its focus to a crucial match against India, aiming for a direct qualification spot in the AFC U-23 Asian Cup finals next year. This follows their resounding victory over Brunei, where they secured a stunning 13-0 win in their opening game at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha.
In a display of offensive prowess, forward Moustafa Asar led the charge, scoring four goals. Contributions also came from teammates Noureldan Tamer and Marawan Brimil, who each netted two goals, while other players such as Jassem Al Sharshani, Mubarak Shanan Hamza, Mohamed Siraj, Hashmi Al Hussain, and Abdulaziz Mohamad Hassan added to the tally, overwhelming the Brunei defense.
Looking Ahead to the Challenge Against India
After the emphatic win, Siraj, who scored Qatar’s fourth goal, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. “We entered the first match with the goal of winning and scoring as many goals as possible, given the importance of goal difference in securing qualification from the last two matches and to avoid being under pressure,” he stated.
Siraj highlighted the significance of the victory as a motivational boost for the upcoming matches against India and Bahrain. “The big win is important and will be a great motivation for us ahead of the final two matches,” he added.
As Qatar prepares for their next match, Siraj noted the need to focus on the challenge ahead. “We will turn the page on this match and begin preparing for the next match against India, which will not be easy,” he explained.
Currently, Qatar sits atop Group H with three points and an impressive goal difference of +13. India, following a 2-0 victory over Bahrain, also has three points and ranks second, while Bahrain remains scoreless in third place. Brunei occupies the fourth position.
Upcoming Matches and Tournament Context
In the other Group H match tomorrow, Brunei will face Bahrain at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium. Qatar’s final group stage match is scheduled for September 9, 2026, against Bahrain.
The top teams from each group, along with the four best runners-up, will qualify for the 2026 U-23 Asian Cup, which will take place from January 7-25. Qatar is keen to secure their spot in this prestigious tournament as they look to build on their strong start in the group stage.
