Gun-Wielding Thieves Target Hamilton Restaurant on Father’s Day

Staff at the Smith & McKenzie Steak House in Hamilton faced a traumatic situation on June 18, 2023, as armed robbers disrupted the Father’s Day celebrations. According to local authorities, two individuals entered the restaurant shortly before 11:20 a.m., with one carrying a firearm. The intruders targeted cash and fled the scene in a vehicle shortly thereafter.
In a post on social media, the restaurant expressed their distress over the incident, stating, “As many of you may be aware, today our team experienced a traumatic event with an armed robbery. Our staff are understandably shaken and upset, but we are so proud of their incredible strength and composure in such a frightening situation. We truly couldn’t ask for a better team.”
The police confirmed that the offenders specifically aimed for cash during the robbery. While no injuries were reported, the emotional impact on the staff and patrons was significant. Witnesses described a scene of panic as the event unfolded, marking a stark contrast to the typically celebratory atmosphere associated with Father’s Day.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, urging anyone with information to come forward. The restaurant has reassured its patrons that security measures will be reviewed to enhance safety in the future.
In light of the robbery, community members have expressed their support for the restaurant staff, showing solidarity in the face of such adversity. The incident has sparked conversations about safety in public spaces, particularly in light of the increasing number of similar crimes.
As investigations continue, the Hamilton community remains hopeful for a swift resolution. The police are working diligently to bring those responsible to justice, emphasizing the importance of a safe environment for both businesses and their customers.
