Katrina Bungard, a long-serving member of the Howick Local Board, is campaigning for re-election in the Pakuranga subdivision. With over a decade of experience, she intends to maintain her focus on essential community services, fiscal responsibility, and sustainable growth.

Bungard, who previously served as deputy chair, emphasizes the importance of core services in her campaign. “Core services must come first,” she states. “That means protecting weekly rubbish collection, keeping public spaces safe and clean, and ensuring our local facilities are properly maintained.” Her commitment to these foundational aspects reflects her understanding of their direct impact on residents’ daily lives.

In addressing growth and housing, Bungard asserts her support for sensible development that aligns with community values. “I support sensible development where appropriate, but not at the expense of our community’s character and liveability,” she explains. “Planning must reflect community input, and I’ll continue to ensure local voices are heard.”

Bungard’s record showcases her fiscally conservative approach. She has consistently opposed unnecessary spending by the Auckland Council while advocating for investments in essential services. Her dedication extends beyond her council duties; she actively volunteers as a director for both the Auckland Amputee Society and the Federation New Zealand. Additionally, she serves as deputy chair of MECOSS and supports various cancer charities.

Her extensive volunteer work illustrates her commitment to enhancing community well-being. “Pakuranga is my home, and I feel a deep responsibility to preserve and enhance this community for future generations,” she adds.

Professionally, Bungard brings over 20 years of experience in education. She has held positions as head of department at Elim College and deputy principal. Currently, she works as a specialist teacher, assisting children with high health needs. Her educational background is complemented by her strong governance credentials; she is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors and holds master’s degrees in Public Policy and Educational Leadership, as well as postgraduate qualifications in Specialist Teaching.

This diverse experience equips her to navigate complex policy issues effectively and advocate for evidence-based solutions. “People know me as someone who listens, advocates, and delivers, and that’s exactly what I’ll continue to do,” she asserts, highlighting her commitment to her constituents.

With a proven track record in local governance, community service, and education, Katrina Bungard presents herself as a trusted candidate dedicated to the future of Pakuranga. Her candidacy promises a continuation of the community-driven leadership she has demonstrated throughout her tenure.
