The acclaimed Soweto Gospel Choir has announced its return to New Zealand for a four-date tour in 2026, showcasing a new collection of South African freedom songs. This highly anticipated concert series, presented by Live Nation and Andrew Kay, will kick off on March 19, 2026, at the Waikato Regional Theatre in Hamilton, before continuing to various venues across the country.

Following the opening night in Hamilton, the choir will perform at the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) on March 29, 2026. The tour will then move to Pōneke (Wellington) for a performance at the St James Theatre on March 31, 2026, concluding its New Zealand journey at the Christchurch Town Hall in Ōtautahi (Christchurch) on April 1, 2026.

The concert will feature a vibrant repertoire celebrating the songs and anthems from both Nelson Mandela’s Freedom Movement in South Africa and the Civil Rights Movement led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in America. The performance will open with powerful renditions of South African freedom songs, gradually transitioning to influential protest music from the Civil Rights era.

Audiences can expect to enjoy classics from renowned artists such as Elvis Presley, Sam Cooke, Cynthia Erivo, Stevie Wonder, and Aretha Franklin. The Soweto Gospel Choir’s unique ability to express deep emotions through music promises to resonate with fans, offering a poignant reminder of the struggles for justice and equality.

Given the choir’s rich history, which includes multiple Grammy and Emmy Awards, their concerts are not just performances but a celebration of cultural heritage and resilience. The upcoming tour is expected to draw significant interest, allowing audiences in New Zealand to experience the dynamic energy and spirit of the Soweto Gospel Choir.

Tickets for the tour are anticipated to be in high demand, reflecting the choir’s global appeal and the universal themes of hope and freedom present in their music. Fans are encouraged to secure their tickets early to ensure they do not miss this exceptional musical experience.
