Qatar Shell Showcases Energy Innovations at Changemakers 2025
Qatar Shell made a significant impact at Shell’s flagship innovation event, Changemakers of Tomorrow 2025, held in Bangalore, India. The two-day event attracted over 10,000 attendees from Shell’s global network, including startups and energy leaders, to discuss the future of energy through interactive showcases and engaging panel discussions.
Showcasing Innovation and Commitment
The participation of Qatar Shell underscored its commitment to digital transformation, sustainability, and talent development. A key highlight was the recognition of Pearl GTL as a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Lighthouse Network. This distinction marks the first time a Shell facility and a site in Qatar has achieved this prestigious honour.
The announcement was made during the event’s award ceremony, which celebrated Pearl GTL’s status as a benchmark in energy innovation and operational excellence. In a panel discussion, Misfer Al-Bidaiwi, Vice President of Pearl GTL, shared insights about the site’s digitalisation journey, which includes the implementation of over 45 advanced technologies such as AI-driven analytics, predictive maintenance, and real-time integrity monitoring.
Al-Bidaiwi highlighted the significance of leadership and cultural change in fostering innovation. He stated, “At Pearl GTL, we believe real change happens when technology and people come together with a shared purpose. Our journey is about more than digital tools; it’s about building a culture of innovation and learning from our partners.”
Empowering Startups and Collaboration
The event featured the award ceremony for the Shell.ai Futures Pitch – Qatar Edition, a platform designed for startups to present innovative solutions in AI and energy. This collaboration between Shell and the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) aims to leverage Shell’s expertise in AI and energy technologies while benefiting from QSTP’s pivotal role in Qatar’s innovation ecosystem.
Rama Chakaki, President of QSTP, expressed enthusiasm about the level of innovation observed at the event. “Coming from Silicon Valley and seeing the level of innovation, especially in AI and data science, was fantastic. The diversity of startup applications, from sustainability in education to oil and gas management, was eye-opening,” Chakaki said. He emphasized the opportunity for collaboration with Shell to nurture the AI and machine learning startup community within the oil and gas sector.
Qatar Shell’s active involvement in Changemakers of Tomorrow aligns with the Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly in promoting sustainable development, enhancing human capital, and fostering economic diversification.
