The incident occurred on March 10, 2024, around 12:35 PM as police responded to reports of a man with a “long-bladed weapon” at a residence on Anne Street, valued at an estimated $2-3 million.
According to New Zealand Police, the 54-year-old suspect entered the property and confronted a man, reportedly attacking him with the sword. Fortunately, the injuries sustained were not life-threatening. The suspect fled the scene but was later shot at by police during a subsequent encounter.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding public safety and the prevalence of violent crime in residential areas. Local residents expressed shock at the event, emphasizing the need for increased security measures within their community.
Police continue to investigate the incident, seeking any additional witnesses who may have seen the events unfold. As the case develops, authorities are expected to provide further updates on the matter.
In the wake of this attempted theft, the Wellington community is reminded of the importance of vigilance and reporting suspicious behavior to law enforcement.
