Duchess of York Faces £400,000 Loss in Belgravia Townhouse Sale
The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, has sold her townhouse in Belgravia at a loss of £400,000 (approximately $924,224). The property, which was purchased just three years ago, was sold for £3.85 million, reflecting a 10% decrease from the original purchase price of £4.25 million in June 2022.
Ferguson acquired the London mews house as an investment for her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, and did so without the need for a mortgage. The sale, which occurred in August 2023, was described by sources close to the Duchess as a decision made because “it was a good time to sell.”
Currently residing in the lavish Royal Lodge estate in Windsor with her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, Ferguson’s real estate choices have attracted media attention. The loss on the Belgravia property highlights the fluctuating dynamics of the London real estate market.
While the sale represents a financial setback for Ferguson, it also underscores the strategic decisions made in property investments, particularly in high-value areas like Belgravia. The townhouse, part of a competitive segment of the market, had initially been viewed as a promising asset for the Duchess and her family.
The Land Registry transfer documents confirm the sale details and the significant drop in value. As the property market continues to evolve, the impacts on individual investors, including prominent figures like Ferguson, reveal the complexities of real estate investment in urban environments.
This transaction also adds a new chapter to Ferguson’s financial narrative, which has been closely followed by both royal watchers and the general public. As she navigates her personal and financial landscape, the implications of this sale will likely resonate within her broader financial portfolio.
