All Blacks’ Tupou Vaa’i Withdraws from Bledisloe Cup Test in Perth
The All Blacks face a significant setback ahead of their crucial Bledisloe Cup test against the Wallabies, scheduled for 10:45 PM on October 4, 2023, at Optus Stadium in Perth. Lock Tupou Vaa’i has been ruled out of the match due to a right knee injury sustained during training on Thursday.
In response to Vaa’i’s absence, the All Blacks have called up Highlanders lock Fabian Holland as his replacement. Holland will team up with returning captain Scott Barrett in the second row. Additionally, Patrick Tuipulotu will provide locking options from the substitutes bench, ensuring the team maintains its depth in that position.
Vaa’i’s injury will be assessed by a specialist upon the team’s return to New Zealand next week. This development adds to the challenges faced by the All Blacks as they seek to secure a victory in the final match of the Rugby Championship.
The All Blacks have named a strong lineup for the test, featuring a mix of seasoned players and emerging talent. The starting team includes:
1. Tamaiti Williams
2. Codie Taylor
3. Fletcher Newell
4. Scott Barrett (Captain)
5. Fabian Holland
6. Simon Parker
7. Ardie Savea (Vice-Captain)
8. Peter Lakai

10. Damian McKenzie
11. Leicester Fainga’anuku
12. Jordie Barrett (Vice-Captain)
13. Quinn Tupaea
14. Leroy Carter
15. Will Jordan
The bench includes:
16. Samisoni Taukei’aho
17. George Bower
18. Pasilio Tosi
19. Patrick Tuipulotu
20. Wallace Sititi
21. Cortez Ratima
22. Rieko Ioane
23. Ruben Love
As the All Blacks prepare for this important clash, the absence of Vaa’i will be felt, but the team remains focused on delivering a strong performance against their rivals. Fans can expect live updates on the match through various platforms, including RNZ.
With the stakes high, the All Blacks are determined to overcome this hurdle and secure a decisive victory in the Bledisloe Cup series.
