The Arqana Purebred Arabian Horse Sale took place on October 6, 2023, at Saint Cloud Racecourse in Paris, attracting a significant number of international buyers, including owners, trainers, and breeders from various countries. The event showcased a diverse selection of horses, drawing attention for both the quality of the animals and the opportunity to purchase ahead of a busy racing weekend in the city.

Representatives from the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) were present, underscoring the sale’s importance and its strategic scheduling just hours before the start of racing at Saint Cloud. This event is followed by racing fixtures at ParisLongchamp over the weekend, further enhancing the sale’s appeal.

High Stakes and Quality Offerings

A total of 97 lots were available at the auction, which included 36 two-year-olds, two yearlings, 31 horses in training, and 28 breeding stock. The high quality of the horses led to a robust clearance rate, with many lots successfully sold. Buyers are permitted, under auction rules, to enter their newly acquired racehorses in upcoming races starting today, a feature that amplifies the sale’s significance in the racing calendar.

The timing of the Arqana sale coincides with Qatar’s sponsorship of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, reflecting the nation’s ongoing commitment to promoting Purebred Arabian horses and their races on an international stage. This dedication is exemplified by the establishment of the Qatar Arabian World Cup, a prestigious Group 1 race that has been held in France since Qatar began its sponsorship in 2008.

A Boost to Arabian Racing

The impact of this sponsorship has been profound, significantly elevating the profile of Arabian racing globally. The Qatar Arabian World Cup is strategically scheduled just 40 minutes prior to the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, generating considerable excitement and attention from racing enthusiasts worldwide. This integration of Arabian racing into a prominent international event highlights Qatar’s role in shaping the future of the sport.

As the racing weekend unfolds, the outcomes of the Arqana sale will undoubtedly contribute to the competitive landscape, with new entrants poised to make their mark in the upcoming races. The annual sale not only serves as a marketplace for quality horses but also as a celebration of the rich tradition and future of Arabian racing.
