Liam Lawson Struggles in Qualifying, Finishes 14th in Singapore GP
Liam Lawson faced significant challenges during the qualifying rounds for the **Singapore Grand Prix**, ultimately securing a 14th-place position. The Kiwi driver experienced a tumultuous 24 hours, marked by two crashes that severely impacted his performance on the track.
In the second free practice session (FP2), held on **September 16, 2023**, Lawson crashed into the wall at turn 17, resulting in an abrupt end to his session. This incident was compounded by another error in the third practice session (FP3), where he lost control of his vehicle and crashed at turn 7. These setbacks limited him to just seven laps in FP3, depriving him of essential track time before the crucial qualifying rounds.
Despite the setbacks, Lawson demonstrated resilience by advancing from the first stage of qualifying. However, he fell short in the second stage, missing the opportunity for a top 10 start by a narrow margin of just **0.244 seconds**. This close call highlights the competitive nature of Formula 1, where every fraction of a second counts.
While Lawson’s performance was commendable under the circumstances, he can take some comfort in outqualifying his Red Bull rival, **Yuki Tsunoda**, who will start the race from 15th position. Lawson’s ability to maintain a competitive edge against Tsunoda showcases his potential, even in challenging conditions.
As the Singapore Grand Prix approaches, Lawson will aim to leverage his experience and improve his performance, despite the hurdles faced in qualifying. The race promises to be an exciting event, with Lawson looking to capitalize on any opportunities to gain positions and showcase his driving skills on the demanding street circuit.
