The drone show held in Mysuru on September 28, 2023, has set a new Guinness World Record by featuring an impressive 2,983 drones that created a stunning aerial representation of a tiger. Organized by the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC), this spectacle took place at the Torchlight Parade Grounds in Bannimantap as part of the annual Dasara celebrations.

Record-Breaking Achievement

According to Munigopal Raju, Managing Director of CESC, the initiative aimed to elevate the experience for attendees by nearly doubling the number of drones from 1,500 used in the previous year. Raju noted, “The earlier record involved 1,985 drones forming a tiger. We wanted to surpass that and decided to attempt creating our national animal with 3,000 drones — something that had never been done before.”

The record-setting attempt adhered to rigorous protocols, which included certification from a team based in London and verification by aeronautical engineers, auditors, and legal experts. This meticulous planning ensured the event’s compliance with international standards.

A Captivating Display

The first trial demonstration occurred on September 28, followed by a second trial on September 29, leading up to the main shows scheduled for October 1 and 2. Audiences were treated to a breathtaking display as the drones illuminated the night sky, showcasing various images such as the solar system, a world map, and iconic cultural symbols, including Lord Krishna and the Ambari elephant.

Mr. Raju explained the selection process for the visuals was critical due to the limited power backup of each drone, which allowed for only 10–12 image transitions. The success of the show can be attributed to the collective efforts of nearly 100 professionals from a private drone company, alongside around 200 CESC staff members who contributed to the project.

Prior to the drone performance, playback singer Kunal Ganjawala entertained the audience with a vibrant musical act, enhancing the festive atmosphere and setting the stage for an unforgettable evening.

The successful endeavor not only highlights Mysuru’s commitment to innovation but also showcases the region’s cultural heritage during its beloved Dasara festival. The achievement is a testament to the collaborative spirit and technological advancement that continues to shape the events in Mysuru.
