The Singapore Management University’s (SMU) Master of Science in Applied Finance (MAF) programme has achieved a remarkable milestone, securing the top position in Singapore, second in Asia, and 33rd globally in the 2026 QS Global Master’s in Finance Rankings. This notable debut places the MAF programme among the leading 248 finance programmes evaluated across 47 locations.

In the same rankings, SMU’s MBA programme also demonstrated its strength, climbing to 4th in Asia. Despite a rise in the number of programmes assessed by Quacquarelli Symonds, SMU’s MBA maintained its global ranking at 41st out of 390 evaluated programmes. This consistency underscores the university’s commitment to excellence in business education.

Recognition of Academic Excellence

Professor Bert De Reyck, Dean of SMU’s Lee Kong Chian School of Business, commented on the rankings, stating, “These rankings reflect not only academic excellence, but also SMU’s distinctive approach of marrying academic depth with real-world application.” He emphasized that the programmes are designed to equip graduates with the confidence and skills needed to thrive in competitive global markets.

Established in 2000, SMU’s Lee Kong Chian School of Business is one of the youngest business schools globally. It earned the prestigious ‘Triple Crown’ accreditation in 2018, a recognition held by a select group of business schools worldwide. This accreditation includes endorsements from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), AMBA, and the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS).

Strength in Business Analytics

In addition to finance, SMU’s Master of IT in Business (MITB) programme has also garnered acclaim, ranking 2nd in Asia and 25th globally in the 2026 QS Master’s in Business Analytics. This recognition highlights the programme’s ability to prepare graduates for in-demand roles in rapidly evolving sectors, including artificial intelligence and technology.

To address the growing demand for cybersecurity professionals, SMU recently introduced a new Cybersecurity track within the MITB programme. This addition enhances the existing specialisations in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science & Analytics, FinTech, and Digital Transformation.

The university’s postgraduate programmes are characterized by strong industry engagement, offering students real-world case studies from Asia and best practices from global companies. Led by an internationally diverse faculty, these programmes promote interactive, seminar-style learning, providing students with valuable networking opportunities and access to business leaders.

As the business landscape continues to evolve, SMU regularly updates its curricula to align with changes in society and industry, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for the realities of a dynamic global economy. The latest rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds were released on September 17, 2025, reflecting a rigorous assessment of university programmes worldwide based on various weighted indicators.

This impressive performance by SMU reinforces its position as a leading institution in finance and business education, committed to fostering the next generation of industry leaders.
