Zhang Damo Donates 100 Masterpieces to Support Charity Initiatives
On December 14, 2025, renowned Chinese artist Zhang Damo made a significant contribution to the arts and charitable causes by donating 100 masterpieces of calligraphy and painting. This donation occurred during the “Benevolent Heung Kong” charity event at the 2025 Heung Kong Entrepreneurs Forum in Guangzhou, China. The proceeds from these artworks will be directed towards public welfare projects and patriotic education initiatives in Hong Kong.
The ceremony attracted hundreds of business leaders and cultural figures, underlining Zhang’s commitment to social responsibility through his artistic endeavors. This event follows his recent recognition as a recipient of the Most Achieved Chinese Award (MACA), which honors individuals for their character, achievements, and contributions to society.
Zhang Damo, who serves as Co-President of the Future Living Art Research Institute at One Heung Kong, expressed the significance of his donation. He described it as a reflection of the deep connection between his artistic journey and the mission of One Heung Kong to promote Chinese culture. “My works are like seeds that will spread the essence of Chinese aesthetics far and wide,” he stated during the ceremony.
The event also highlighted Zhang’s long-standing friendship with Mei Hing Chak, founder of the Heung Kong Group, and Liu Zhiqiang, both of whom he praised as exceptional entrepreneurs and philanthropists. His recognition with the MACA Award earlier this year underscores his dedication to advancing Chinese ink painting on an international stage.
Established in 2010, the MACA serves as a global platform to honor outstanding Chinese individuals, assessing their contributions to society. As a professor at the Chinese National Academy of Art and a national first-class artist, Zhang has devoted over four decades to studying and evolving Chinese painting techniques. He has gained acclaim for his innovative “combined meticulous and freehand” style, with his works being collected by prestigious institutions worldwide.
Zhang’s contributions extend beyond his artwork; he has also served as the Chief Artist of the Peace Boat of the United Nations. Through this role, he has traveled to various countries, promoting cultural exchanges and fulfilling the Belt and Road cultural mission. His efforts have significantly contributed to the global recognition of Chinese culture.
In reflecting on Zhang Damo’s charitable efforts, Mei Hing Chak remarked that his commitment to using art for social good exemplifies the collaborative spirit between artists and entrepreneurs in fostering societal progress. This donation not only showcases Zhang’s artistic prowess but also his dedication to making a positive impact within the community.
