Australian Stars Celebrate Loretta Lynn in Upcoming Theatre Show

Upcoming theatre production, Coal Miner’s Daughter, will pay tribute to the legendary country music star Loretta Lynn on October 19, 2023. The show will be held at the Invercargill Civic Theatre starting at 19:30, featuring Australian singer Amber Joy Poulton in the leading role. Poulton will be joined by Lizzie Moore as Patsy Cline and Denis Surmon portraying both Conway Twitty and Willie Nelson.
The production chronicles Lynn’s journey from her humble beginnings in the hills of Kentucky to her iconic status at the Grand Ole Opry. It is a celebration of her resilience, musical talent, and the rich tapestry of country music during its golden age. Audiences can expect a lively performance, featuring hits such as “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” “Crazy,” “Fist City,” and “Walkin’ After Midnight,” all accompanied by the band The Holy Men.
Poulton expressed her deep admiration for Lynn, noting that she was a formidable presence in a predominantly male industry. “Loretta pushed the envelope of country music expectations and recorded mostly songs she had written or co-written,” Poulton said. She highlighted Lynn’s collaborations with other iconic artists, including duets with Twitty and partnerships with Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, and Willie Nelson.
Poulton reflected on the significant friendship between Lynn and Cline, stating, “Patsy was a protective influence for Loretta, and without Patsy, it’s quite possible there would be no Coal Miner’s Daughter.” This connection adds emotional depth to the narrative, emphasizing the importance of female solidarity in the music industry.
Moreover, Poulton believes Lynn’s legacy serves as an inspiration for women in all walks of life. “She showed us, in the most difficult of times, that women can have it all, including home life, children, friendships, and a career,” she remarked. Poulton indicated that Lynn’s story is one of both triumph and challenge, making it a compelling portrayal.
“I love portraying her life, her cheekiness, her sass and her heartbreak through the years until her very sad induction into Country Music Heaven in 2022,” Poulton added. She encourages all music lovers to attend, suggesting that even those who are not fans of country music will find something to appreciate in this theatrical experience.
