Howickians Reunion Draws Enthusiasts to Celebrate Community Roots
Residents and former inhabitants of Howick came together for a successful reunion at the Pakuranga Bowling Club on October 5, 2023. This event marked the 36th annual Howickians Reunion, where attendees shared laughter, stories, and a deep sense of community.
The gathering welcomed individuals from various locations who hold cherished memories of Howick and its surrounding suburbs. Reunion convener Gay Bevan extended a warm welcome to everyone present, recognizing both current and former members who contributed to the event’s success. A moment of silence was observed to honour past attendees who were unable to join.
Tables were laden with delicious home-made treats brought by participants, complementing the camaraderie that filled the air. Attendees reminisced about their experiences and shared humorous anecdotes, bringing life to the memories of their youth. Photos and stories from past events, including school and sports activities, adorned the venue, showcasing Howick’s evolution over the years.
One participant took the opportunity to share a light-hearted tale involving his grandfather’s mishap during a bread delivery, adding to the festive atmosphere. Attendees were also invited to share personal reflections about their upbringing in the area, with several contributing their cherished memories. This initiative aims to build a repository of stories for future reunions.
Looking ahead, plans are already underway for the next reunion, scheduled for the first Sunday of October 2026. New members are encouraged to join, ensuring the continuity of this cherished tradition.
