New Zealand band Six60 has announced the launch of a new country and roots music festival, titled Sweet Home Aotearoa, scheduled to take place in Matakana this coming January. This festival aims to bring a slice of the vibrant country music scene from Nashville to the shores of New Zealand, curating a line-up that promises to attract prominent artists and fans alike.
Matiu Walters, the lead singer and guitarist of Six60, expressed his enthusiasm for the festival, noting his strong connection to country and roots music during his visits to Nashville. He described the idea of the festival as a way to create a unique experience for New Zealand audiences. “Roots and country have this cross-section that I really love,” Walters stated. “I think it’s just going to be really fun… it’s something new that I think people are going to really love.”
The festival is part of a broader trend of expanding musical genres within New Zealand’s festival circuit. By bringing in the essence of Nashville, Six60 aims to introduce a fresh dynamic to the local music scene, appealing to both country music enthusiasts and newcomers.
The Sweet Home Aotearoa festival is expected to feature a range of established and emerging artists, further fostering the growth of the country music genre in New Zealand. Details regarding ticket sales and the full line-up will be announced in the coming months, generating excitement among potential attendees.
Walters’ passion for country music is evident, and he hopes that this festival will create lasting memories for music lovers. The initiative highlights Six60’s commitment to diversifying the musical landscape in New Zealand, providing audiences with a unique cultural experience.
With the festival set to unfold in January 2024, fans are eagerly awaiting what promises to be an unforgettable celebration of country and roots music in Matakana.
