Al Duhail Dominates Al Arabi 8-1; Al Wakrah Draws with Al Sadd

In a stunning display of skill, Al Duhail overwhelmed Al Arabi with an emphatic 8-1 victory during the Qatar Stars League (QSL) match held on October 24, 2023. Meanwhile, Al Wakrah showcased resilience, coming back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against defending champions Al Sadd.
The match at Al Thumama Stadium saw Krzysztof Piatek initiate the scoring frenzy just three minutes in, converting a precise cross from Sultan Al Brake with a powerful header. Although Piatek later missed a penalty opportunity, the momentum shifted in Al Duhail’s favor when Pablo Sarabia of Al Arabi leveled the score at 1-1 in the 23rd minute with a superb left-footed strike. However, an own goal from Al Hashmi Al Hussain just three minutes later restored Al Duhail’s lead.
Al Duhail’s Commanding Victory
Al Duhail continued to dominate, with Al Brake netting the third goal in the 34th minute with a stunning shot from outside the box. Luis Alberto then added to the scoreline, assisted by Adil Boulbina, bringing the halftime tally to 4-1.
The second half was no different, as Boulbina showcased his scoring ability by chipping the goalkeeper in the 51st minute. Alberto scored his second goal on the hour mark, again set up by Boulbina. Al Arabi’s chances were further diminished when Simo Keddari received a red card in the 66th minute after a VAR review for a foul on Boulbina, who subsequently converted the penalty to complete his brace.
Benjamin Bourigeaud capped off the rout with another penalty in the 78th minute, sealing a remarkable victory for Al Duhail and elevating them to fifth place in the standings with seven points.
Post-match, Al Brake expressed pride in the team’s performance, stating, “We played a great match and regained our rhythm, especially in the first half. We controlled the game early and scored four goals. We’re ready to give everything, both locally and in continental competitions.”
Al Wakrah’s Resilient Comeback
At Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, Al Wakrah faced a challenging start against Al Sadd. Akram Afif opened the scoring for Al Sadd in the 17th minute after exploiting a defensive mishap, followed by a second goal from Giovani shortly after, further complicating Al Wakrah’s position.
Despite a missed penalty kick by Redouane Berkane after the break, he quickly redeemed himself by scoring a spectacular acrobatic goal just three minutes later. Berkane then leveled the match in the 73rd minute, converting a precise cross from Fahad Waad Al-Bayati, ultimately securing an important point for Al Wakrah.
The draw leaves Al Sadd in sixth place with seven points, while Al Wakrah climbs to fourth with eight points.
Other QSL Highlights
In another match, Al Shamal and Al Gharafa played to a goalless stalemate at Khalifa International Stadium. Both teams had chances, but neither could find the back of the net. Al Shamal’s goalkeeper, Babacar Seck, delivered a standout performance, denying Yacine Brahimi on a chip attempt while Baghdad Bounedjah came close to scoring but hit the post on a rebound.
As a result, Al Gharafa remains in third place with ten points, alongside Qatar SC, who could potentially move to the top of the table with a victory over Al Shahania in their upcoming match.
