Al Zeer Triumphs in Gr.3 UAE President Cup in Belgium

Al Zeer, a determined five-year-old Purebred Arabian, secured victory in the Gr.3 (PA) UAE President Cup, held on March 5, 2024, in Waregem, Belgium. This race marked the 11th leg of the Arabian Purebred Classic Series and featured a competitive field of 12 horses aged four and older, racing over a distance of 2,170 meters.
Trained by François Rohaut and ridden by jockey Luka Delozier, Al Zeer showcased his resilience after arriving in Belgium on the back of a strong performance, finishing second in a Gr.3 (PA) race over 2,150 meters at Duindigt. With a previous victory in a Gr.2 (PA) event last season, Al Zeer’s latest win adds another significant achievement to his racing career.
Race Overview and Strategic Moves
Al Zeer began the race smartly, settling in fourth position while racing three wide without cover. The early pace was set by Joe Star from the Al Mourtajez line, closely followed by Norma Al Maury from the Azadi lineage. As the horses passed the stands with one circuit remaining, Al Zeer began advancing on the outside, moving into third position while the leading horses maintained their order.
As the race progressed down the back straight, Joe Star increased the pace, with Norma Al Maury challenging on his inside. Al Zeer shadowed the leader from the outside, demonstrating his competitive spirit. Upon entering the final bend, Joe Star momentarily kicked a length ahead, but Al Zeer surged forward with determination.
In a thrilling climax, Al Zeer engaged in a fierce battle with Joe Star through the final furlong. Displaying remarkable tenacity, he wore down his rival to claim victory, while Nabucco Al Maury finished strongly in third place.
Pedigree and Future Prospects
Al Zeer was bred by MBF and is a product of Assma Al Khalediah (sired by Amer), who herself was a three-time winner in distances ranging from 1,900 to 2,100 meters and a runner-up in a Gr.2 (PA) race over 2,200 meters at the age of five. Al Zeer is also a half-brother to Fazza Al Khalediah, a dual Gr.1 (PA) winner over 2,000 meters, and Ocyrrhoe, another Gr.1 (PA) winner.
This victory not only enhances Al Zeer’s credentials but also positions him favorably for future competitions in the Arabian racing scene. The connections of Al Zeer, led by owner Mohammed bin Fahad A H Al Attiya, celebrated this significant achievement, marking a high point in their racing journey.
