Alzabyr Triumphs in Al Gharafa Cup at Al Rayyan Racecourse
DOHA: Alzabyr made an impressive debut in Qatar by clinching victory in the Al Gharafa Cup for three-year-old Purebred Arabians, held over 1600 meters at Al Rayyan Racecourse on October 30, 2023. The colt, ridden by jockey Marco Casamento, demonstrated his potential by tracking the pace before delivering a powerful finish in the final stretch.
Owner Nasser Saif Al Kubaisi celebrated as Alzabyr crossed the finish line decisively ahead of the competition. This victory not only marked a successful introduction for the horse but also provided a boost for trainer Mohammed Al Ghazali, who later secured another win on the card with Make Love in the Thoroughbred Rated Maiden Plate.
Successful Evening for Jockeys and Trainers
The event was particularly fruitful for jockey Alberto Sanna, who achieved a quick double, winning the Thoroughbred Handicap aboard Weissmuller and the Purebred Arabian Handicap with Kawaii D’Vialettes. Sanna’s performance added to the excitement of the evening, showcasing his skills and the quality of the horses he rode.
Rashid Saed Adiba, Head of Racing Operations at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, presented the trophies to the winners of the feature race, adding an official touch to the celebratory atmosphere. The evening concluded with several additional races, highlighting the depth of talent among the competitors.
Other notable winners on the card included Alwaad in the Local Thoroughbred Handicap, Sealine in the Local Thoroughbred Graduation Plate, Dapper in the Thoroughbred Novice Plate, and Flame Fair in the Thoroughbred Rated Maiden Plate.
As the racing season continues, the success of Alzabyr marks a promising start for both the horse and its team. The thrilling display of talent at Al Rayyan Racecourse sets the stage for an exciting series of events ahead in Qatar’s equestrian calendar.
