Bay Paediatrics Offers Rapid ADHD Diagnoses in Just One Week
Families struggling to secure support for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can now receive a diagnosis and treatment plan in just one week, thanks to a new initiative at Bay Paediatrics in Tauranga. The clinic specializes in ADHD care and is set to unveil its innovative assessment method during the upcoming Epic Families event at Baycourt Theatre on October 12, 2023.
The new ADHD assessment, known as Illuminate, employs advanced technologies including artificial intelligence, motion tracking, and eye-tracking. This approach allows clinicians to objectively measure symptoms associated with ADHD, such as hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity. According to the clinic, this data-driven system enhances accuracy by moving away from traditional methods that often rely on subjective questionnaires completed by parents and teachers.
In a statement, Bay Paediatrics emphasized that the Illuminate assessment aims to deliver “accurate, bias-free results” and reduce the incidence of misdiagnosis. The clinic believes it will also help clinicians better track the effectiveness of medications prescribed to patients.
Dr Sarah Moll, co-founder and clinical director of Bay Paediatrics, highlighted the urgency of this new approach. She stated that families have often endured long waits and uncertainty regarding ADHD diagnoses. “With Illuminate, we can move beyond opinions and guesswork to deliver science-backed answers quickly and confidently,” Dr Moll said.
Dr Moll has also been recognized internationally; she is slated to speak at the 2025 ADHD World Summit in Prague, making her the only paediatrician from New Zealand to receive such an invitation. Drawing from her personal experience as a mother in a neurodiverse household, she understands the challenges families face. “I know what it feels like to juggle family life with the challenges of ADHD,” she noted. “That’s why this work matters so much – it’s about giving families the clarity and support they deserve, without years of uncertainty.”
The Epic Families event will feature panel discussions with leading clinicians, psychologists, and individuals sharing their lived experiences. Topics covered will include emotional regulation, school strategies, sleep, nutrition, anxiety, and effective communication with neurodivergent children. The event will also provide engaging activities for children.
Freddie Bennett, co-founder of Bay Paediatrics and husband of Dr Moll, shared his own journey with ADHD in a previous interview. He noted that receiving a diagnosis was a pivotal moment in his life, transforming feelings of confusion and inadequacy into understanding. “A diagnosis gave me clarity on why I thought and acted the way I did,” he explained.
For families seeking timely support with ADHD, Bay Paediatrics’ new assessment and the upcoming Epic Families event represent a significant step forward. For more information and to secure tickets, visit the Bay Paediatrics website.
