Bint Mohaather Triumphs in Qatar Oaks at Al Rayyan Racecourse
In a remarkable display of talent, Bint Mohaather clinched victory in the Qatar Oaks for three-year-old Thoroughbreds at the Al Rayyan Racecourse in Doha on March 15, 2024. The bay filly, representing Al Jeryan Stud, secured her first major win, showcasing her potential after a series of solid performances.
During the 2000-meter race, Bint Mohaather settled into a strategic position, remaining off the pace for much of the contest. As the race neared its conclusion, she executed a powerful move in the home stretch, taking the lead within the final 300 meters. Under the guidance of jockey Lukas Delozier and trained by MHK Al-Attiyah, Bint Mohaather crossed the finish line a length ahead of her competitors.
Local Thoroughbred and Purebred Arabian Oaks Highlights
The day’s events also included the Local Thoroughbred Oaks, where Wathnan Racing’s War Lady achieved her first career victory in just her second start. Competing over a distance of 1850 meters, the bay filly showcased an impressive performance, winning by a commanding margin of 3.5 lengths. Trainer Alban de Mieulle celebrated a successful evening, retaining the Oaks title for the second consecutive year.
In the Purebred Arabian Oaks for four-year-olds, Wathnan Racing’s Chdia underlined her exceptional form by winning decisively by three lengths. This victory marked her sixth win in seven starts, affirming her status as a champion. Ridden by jockey James Doyle, she led a one-two finish for her connections, with Intisar De Monlau following closely in second place.
Shama’ah Bu Thaila, another Wathnan Racing entrant, also made headlines by winning the Local Purebred Arabian Oaks for four-year-olds. The grey filly began her season in style, producing a late surge to secure victory by 1.25 lengths. Her trainer, Alban de Mieulle, and jockey Faleh Bughenaim celebrated their second win of the evening.
Other Notable Performances
Al Shaqab Racing’s Dhariya retained her title in the Purebred Arabian Oaks for three-year-olds. The grey filly, trained by Jean de Mieulle, demonstrated her dominance by leading from start to finish in the 1600-meter race, winning by 1.75 lengths. Faleh Bughenaim rode Dhariya, who remains unbeaten in Qatar with three victories from four starts.
Another impressive performance came from Grace Secret, racing in the colours of Umm Al Shukhut Farm. She overcame a challenging draw to win the Local Purebred Arabian Oaks for three-year-olds. The bay filly maintained a strong pace throughout the mile race, ultimately winning by a neck against her half-sister, Kendah Al Shahania. Guided by jockey Pierre Charles Boudot, Grace Secret secured her third career victory.
The evening concluded with presentations made by Bader bin Mohammed Al-Darwish, Acting CEO of QREC, who awarded trophies to the winning connections. The successful races highlighted the growing prominence of Qatar’s horse racing scene, showcasing both established and emerging talents.
