Damysus Triumphs in Gr.3 Too Darn Hot Darley Stakes at Newmarket
In a remarkable display of talent, Damysus, a rising star in thoroughbred racing, secured a decisive victory in the Gr.3 Too Darn Hot Darley Stakes at Newmarket on March 15, 2024. The three-year-old colt, trained by the accomplished duo of John and Thady Gosden and owned by Wathnan Racing, showcased his improving form in a competitive field of six runners.
Previously, Damysus had captured attention with an impressive win at the Listed The Aga Khan Studs Prix Nureyev in Deauville, setting the stage for his latest success. This victory marks his first Group win, further solidifying his status as a contender in the racing circuit.
Race Overview and Performance
As the race commenced, Damysus broke well from the gates, settling into fourth position behind the early leader, Mister Rizz (Lope De Vega). The favourite, Gladius (Night Of Thunder), tracked closely in second place, with Liberty Lane (Teofilo) challenging on the outside. Early on, the pace was steady, allowing Damysus to maintain a strong position just off the leaders.
As the race unfolded, the pressure intensified with Liberty Lane moving up to challenge Mister Rizz. Over the final two furlongs, Damysus remained poised, yet to be asked for his full effort. He smoothly transitioned into contention, positioning himself alongside Gladius as they approached the final stretch. The emergence of First Conquest (Teofilo) from the near side added an extra layer of excitement to the race.
Decisive Finish
With less than a furlong to go, Damysus showcased his speed, quickly taking a narrow lead over Gladius. He maintained his momentum, ultimately crossing the finish line three-quarters of a length ahead of the favourite. Gladius secured second place, while First Conquest finished strongly in third.
Damysus was bred by Newsells Park Stud and Merry Fox Stud, and his victory not only marks a significant milestone in his career but also signals the potential for future success in higher-class races.
This latest triumph at Newmarket solidifies Damysus’s reputation as a horse to watch in the coming months, as he continues to climb the ranks in the competitive world of thoroughbred racing.
