Doha Equestrian Tour Kicks Off with H H the Father Amir Prix
DOHA, Qatar: The H H the Father Amir Equestrian Prix 2026 is set to inaugurate the 2026 Doha Equestrian Tour, featuring significant international participation and a prize pool exceeding €3.3 million. This prestigious event will take place at the Longines Arena at Al Shaqab from January 2 to 31, 2026, attracting over 240 riders from around the globe.
Significance and Structure of the Tour
The Qatar Equestrian Federation has confirmed its readiness for the championship, which serves as the opening event of the tour. In a statement, Bader bin Mohammed Al-Darwish, President of the Qatar Equestrian Federation, emphasized that this event is a cornerstone of the Doha Equestrian Tour 2026, which encompasses ten international championships ranging from one to five stars.
Al-Darwish noted that the tour will extend until April 4, 2026, with a total prize pool exceeding €10 million. He highlighted the event’s role in showcasing Qatar’s commitment to sports as a pillar of sustainable development, enhancing the nation’s global presence.
As the inaugural event, the H H the Father Amir Equestrian Prix holds special significance in the sporting calendar. Al-Darwish pointed out that the championship is named in honor of H H the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who played a vital role in advancing Qatar’s sports infrastructure and establishing equestrianism as a key aspect of the nation’s cultural identity.

The championship is anticipated to significantly contribute to the sports economy by attracting visitors, official delegations, and industry stakeholders. It aims to stimulate investment linked to equestrianism and major events. Sheikh Ahmed bin Noah Al Thani, Secretary General of the Qatar Equestrian Federation, stated that the tour reflects the federation’s long-term strategy to create a sustainable sporting legacy emphasizing quality, excellence, and innovation, in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030. He reiterated the importance of the championship in solidifying Qatar’s status on the international equestrian scene.
The organizing committee has taken steps to ensure this inaugural edition sets a benchmark for organizational excellence. Preparations include adherence to standards set by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), ensuring a professional environment for both competitors and spectators.
The competition program will include events classified from one to five stars, alongside categories for juniors and youth. This approach is designed to encourage broad participation, foster talent development, and maintain high technical standards throughout the championship’s four rounds.
Sheikh Ahmed confirmed that all logistical and technical arrangements at the Longines Arena at Al Shaqab have been finalized. These include arena readiness, judging protocols, hospitality services, media operations, and television broadcasting. Such comprehensive planning aims to deliver an enriching sporting experience for participants and fans alike, further establishing the Doha Equestrian Tour as a premier event in the global equestrian calendar.
