Doha Launches 2026 Diamond League Season on May 8
The 2026 Diamond League season will commence in Doha on May 8, 2026, marking the start of a highly anticipated athletics campaign that promises to showcase the world’s elite athletes. The season will culminate in a two-day final scheduled for September 4-5, 2026, in Brussels.
Next year, the Diamond League will return for its 17th season, featuring a series of 14 meetings across four continents. Athletes will compete for points to secure their places in the series final and vie for the prestigious Diamond Trophy. The season calendar has now been published and is available on the Diamond League website.
Global Athletic Showcase
The 2026 Road to the Final will kick off in Asia, with Doha hosting the opening event. Following the Doha meet, the series will continue with back-to-back events in Shanghai and Xiamen. The African leg of the tour will take place in Rabat on May 31, followed by the first European meeting in Rome the subsequent week.
After a series of events in Stockholm, Oslo, and Paris, the tour will make its way to Eugene on the US west coast, a venue notable for having seen five world records broken in just the past three seasons. The series will return to Europe for events in Monaco and London, before heading into the final stretch in August, including stops in Lausanne, Silesia, and Zurich.
Chasing Glory and Records
With no Olympic Games or World Championships in 2026, the Diamond Trophy represents one of the most significant titles available to athletes. The previous season, the Diamond League attracted approximately 400,000 spectators to some of the world’s most iconic stadiums and was broadcast in 170 countries.
Among the athletes to watch, Mondo Duplantis, the Swedish pole vault sensation, will aim to secure his sixth consecutive Diamond League title while striving to improve upon his world record of 6.30 meters. Meanwhile, US sprint star Noah Lyles, who became the most successful track athlete in Diamond League history with his sixth series title in 2025, has the opportunity to equal or surpass the record of seven Diamond Trophies.
The 2026 Diamond League season promises to deliver thrilling athletic performances and record-breaking opportunities as top competitors vie for glory on a global stage.
